Kids Sensory Activities
Children need opportunities to use their senses to help build the connections and brain development. These amazing sensory activities for children will help you create lasting, brain-building, and educational fun!
Children and adults tend to retain information better when they engage their senses. The 5 basic senses are taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing. Mastering these 5 senses help children with motor skills such as body awareness and balance, problem-solving skills, and social skills.
Playing with sand or play dough allows children to learn about spatial concepts. Messy play encourages adventure. Playing with music actually encourages math basics as well as artistic expression.
Sensory boxes can be used to demonstrate hot, cold, soft, hard, sticky, dry, etc.
Sensory play simply includes ANY activities that stimulate the senses, and it can be fun for ALL ages.
Sensory play is also great for calming an anxious child
Just remember when you are trying out these activities that each child is different. What is “normal” for one child may be under- or over-stimulating to another. Allow your child to explore their own comfort zone.
Relax, uses those senses, and enjoy!
